View Full Version : 2007 Die Cast Buys of the Week

KG_Jag
01-08-2007, 01:13 AM
We will start our second year of featuring certain die cast items each week. We use the term "die cast" somewhat liberally, as we feature not only traditional die cast items, but also resin and mostly plastic items as well. The keys are that each featured item come pre-painted and requires either no or little assembly.

The first selections are about to posted...

Early January is a great time to take advantages of sales, and die cast vendors certainly offer their fair share (although most of us certainly would not object if there were even more). All of our selections for this week fall into this this category.

Perry Aircraft Hobbies has four versions of the recently released 1:72 scale Corgi Catalina. Two of the three are offered for $49.95 and a diorama is available for $54.95. See them here:

http://www.perryaircraft.com/cgi-bin/DATABASE/PAHcgi.pl/default.htm?MODEL=Catalina&view_records=1&so=ascend&sb=2&MATCHFILE=Catalina#old36103

Not to be outdone, Bad Cat is offering a Witty 1:72 scale F-16 Falcon from Edwards Air Force Base (which I just drove by today) for just $19.00. See it on the taxiway here:

http://badcattoys.stores.yahoo.net/ffaetece1wiw.html

Bad Cat also leads our AFV offerings this week. They have a 21st Century 1:32 M7 Priest for $14.00. See it lobbing HE shells here:

The sales of January continue, providing good news to the holiday depleted wallets of collectors everywhere.

We'll start with a whole page of specials, including a good many on the almost never discounted King and Country line at the Spirit of '76. Be sure to check out the K & C specials, but our featured item is a short barreled grau Pz IV from WBritain. This piece, like all WBritain WW II offerings, is in the 1:35 scale. The discounted price is $45.00.

Here's the link to the sales page, with the featured item appearing second from the bottom:

Our ground selections this week focus of the Tiger and King Tiger. All selections this week are from Dragon.

Our second AFV offering is from the same line and in the same scale and is also in the same AFV lineage. It is a winter camoed Sturmtiger from Diecast Direct for just a buck more at $14.95. Diecast Direct won't let me show you the picture of this mini-monster, but you can see it by clicking:

Our first areal offering is from my favorite maker of air plane die cast products, GMP. Some of you may recognize this company from their well know race car line. Their 1:35 planes are also excellent and at most sites will set you back about $150 a pop. You can certainly pick one up at a significantly lower price through an on-line auction. But among the best prices that I have found from an on-line store is our first aircraft pick this week. From Pro Star 2 Collectibles, Inc, we feature a "Cripes A Mighty 3rd" livery of the P-51D Mustang for $79.95. See it here:

Minichamps makes some of the best die cast AFVs available today. Checking my sources, it appears that almost all the dealer have no or very limited stock of any such AFV that has been released. Finding any at all can be a challenge, but finding one at a decent price is an almost an impossible quest at this moment. However, I have uncovered two Minichamps classics from AWA at prices that you can almost afford--$79.20 a pop. My suspicions are that stock is very limited. So you should probably place your order ASAP!

Minichamps are in the 1:35 scale (give or take), and are very heavy die cast with great details and working suspensions. Our first selection is the camo version of the Tiger 1. This is a mid-production Tiger. See it here:

As was done last week, I have uncovered two Minichamps classics from EWA at prices that you can almost afford--$79.20 a pop. My suspicions are that stock is very limited. In fact one of these is said to be the "last one." So if you want one, you should probably place your order ASAP!

In the event that you prefer aircraft, our third selection is a 1:72 scale IXO Dauntless in early war US livery for a closeout price of $15.00 at Bad Cat. Living up to their name, Bad Cat will not less us show a picture, but you can see it here:

Our final selection is from Big Boys War Toys, which is apparently going out of business and liquidating their inventory. Our pick is the:

"USAF Wisconsin ANG, 50th Anniversary"

1:72 SCALE

It provides a relatively low-cost, high-performance weapon system for the United States and allied nations. This plane belongs to the 115th Tactical Fighter Wing of the Wisconsin Air National Guard, flying out of Truax Field, Madison, Wisconsin.

Big Boys War Toys has been trying to liquidate its stock and go out of business (or so it would appear) for some time. Both of our airborne picks are from their remaining inventory and both feature a 20% discount from the stated price.

Bulldog Tank (Winter-Weathered)

1:18 SCALE IS FOR USE WITH 4 INCH FIGURES

This is an authentic 1:18 scale replica of a Vietnam era M41 Walker Bulldog tank. This tank has been "winterized" and includes one figure. Packaged on a black display case in a window box. Recommended for ages 5 and up.

The M41 "Walker Bulldog" Tank was a light tank designed to be air-transportable and to provide mobile firepower in combat. The M41 was developed from the T37 series of light tank designs from World War II. Design began in 1949 with the intent of creating a replacement for the M24 Chaffee. The M41 is named for Gen. W.W. Walker who was killed in a jeep accident in Korea.

While the M41 was highly maneuverable, reasonably potent, simple to operate, and effective in combat, it also used fuel at an alarming rate and was extremely noisy. Its main gun was fully stabilized and very accurate for the time. Produced in the 1950´s by Cadillac´s Cleveland Tank Plant with first production models completed in 1951. By 1953 the M41 Bulldog had totally replaced the M24 Chaffee. The US did not use the M41 in combat in Vietnam but did provide a number of them to the South Vietnamese during 1965 as part of a massive re-equipment program. The M41 was highly effective against North Vietnamese T-54/55 tanks in the Vietnam war with its 76mm gun. However, in Vietnam the M41 suffered from being too light for most traditional battlefield support tasks and too heavy for most internal security tasks.

But if PC is OK with you or you don't mind slapping on a couple of decals that are not included, at $11.95, this plane might be for you.

For both of our AFV selections, we're off to the Eastern Front. The first is from Treefrog Treasures. It is a 1:35 scale W. Britain T-34/76 [it looks like a 1943 model] in winter camo for $46.00. Here's a picture and what the vendor tell us about it:

Russian T-34 Tank Edition 2 17497B Wm. Britain The T-34, the Red Army's standard medium battle tank in World War II, was the most influential armored fighting vehicle to emerge during that conflict. German Field Marshal Gerd von Rundstedt called it the "best tank in the world," an opinion echoed by many of his comrades. The T-34's surprising strengths caused the Wehrmacht to improve its tank designs, and those changes forced the Americans and the British to do likewise.

About the StuG IV:
SturmgeschĂĽtz is a German word for "assault gun", abbreviated StuG. They were widely as fire support to infantry, panzer and panzergrenadier units. The vehicle was essentially a tank chassis with a gun, usually a long-barreled 75mm, mounted on it. Due to it not having the gun mounted in a turret, it afforded the crew more space but limited the traverse of the gun, requiring the whole vehicle to turn to aim at a target most of the time. Throughout World War II, especially later in the war, Germany produced more assault guns than tanks, because they were cheaper and quicker to produce due to the lack of a need to put in a revolving turret and the complex machinery, and were almost as effective as tanks. They also provided a use for obsolete tank chassis, most assault guns being mounted on Panzer III and Panzer IV chassis, producing the StuG III and StuG IV, respectively. The StuG IV is a slightly modified SturmgeschĂĽtz III superstructure mounted on a Panzer IV chassis. Around 1100 were built starting in 1943. The StuG IV was known as a very effective tank killers, especially on the Eastern Front.

This week we feature two good buys on AFVs from different eras.

We have featured this first item in the past. But the quality of this Tiger, combined with the price and fact that it is getting more difficult to find, prompts me to feature it again. Available from Monkey Depot at $37.95, it is Dragon Armor 1/35 Tiger #122 Initial Production (61003) DA0172 s.Pz.Abt.502

It's time to head to the airfield for our next two selections for this week. The oldest and largest (at least in real life) is a Corgi 1:144 scale Lancaster bomber offered by Spirit of '76 for $16.50. Here are some details and a picture:

Memorial Day is devoted to honor those who have served and who are serving in the military. It is also the time when some of the military die cast vendors run a sale. The most impressive one that I have seen this year is that of the Flying Mule. Be sure to check out all that they have to offer at some very good prices. We just can't feature them all here.

Once in a while one of our picks falls outside the realm of historical military equipment. Let's just say that I am looking ahead (or perhaps behind to 1966 and our family's first color TV) for the first selection, which is Kirk's Enterprise. Flying Mule offers it at the never before seen price of only $9.99. Beam it up from here:

Back on Earth and next up is couple of AFVs. For only $6.00 Great Models offers a 1/72 MRC35002 M113ACAV Tank USMC DaNang Vietnam.

It's time to take to the sky with the Flying Mule for our two picks of the air. The first is a Special Edition that Corgi makes for only the Flying Mule. It is available for $19.99:

Corgi Flying Mule Collection US33820
P-47D Thunderbolt Diecast Model
USAAF 4th FG, 336th FS, "Donnie Boy", Don Gentile, RAF Debden, England, 1944
Limited Edition

1:72 Scale Length WidthRepublic P-47D Thunderbolt 6" 6.75"

The Flying Mule presents another limited edition model, commissioned from Corgi Classics as a part of their Aviation Archive series. This model is limited to just 750 pieces worldwide!
Dominic Gentile began his fighter pilot career in the RAF, where he was a member of the No. 133 Eagle Squadron, an elite flying force consisting entirely of American born pilots. It was in the cockpit of a Supermarine Spitfire that Gentile made his first mark as a great pilot, earning the British Distinguished Flying Cross after shooting down two German aircraft within 10 minutes of each other.
The following month, Gentile and his fellow Eagle Squadron pilots were transitioned from RAF duty to the US Air Force 336th Fighter Squadron, Fourth Fighter Group, a unit that went on to become one of the most successful air combat units of WWII. The 336th continued to fly Spitfires (Gentile's USAAF Spitfire (http://www.flyingmule.com/products/CG-US31926) is also available as a Flying Mule edition) until the P-47 Thunderbolt came on the scene in 1943. Used to the lighter, more maneuverable Spitfire, Gentile was not pleased with his new plane, but he christened it "Donnie Boy" and went on to score 4.33 victories in its cockpit, two of which occurred during a famous low-altitude dogfight in which he out-maneuvered an Fw-190. During that battle, Gentile shot down two Fw-190s but ran out of ammunition and was forced to out-fly a pursuing Fw-190 until it, too exhausted its ammunition. The incident was a remarkable example of Gentile's skill in the cockpit-not many pilots could fly a tight-turning dogfight in a P-47 against a pursuing Fw-190 and come away the winner. While serving in the 336th, Gentile and fellow ace Duane Beeson began a friendly rivalry nicknamed "The Ace Race" (Beeson's P-47 (http://www.flyingmule.com/products/CG-US33819) is also available from Corgi). Both men were so dedicated to their goal of scoring the highest number of German kills that they exchanged leave time for the opportunity to fly. The record was ultimately captured by Gentile when he broke Rickenbacker's record of 26 kills on April 5, 1944, at the age of 23.

Our last selection for this week is also an American WW 2 birds, but this one has twin engines and lays big eggs. Available for $59.99, it is:
Corgi Aviation Archive Collector Series US35307
B-25 Mitchell Diecast Model
USMC VMB-433, "Lassie", Solomon Islands, 1944, w/5 Figures
Limited Edition

1:72 Scale Length WidthNorth American B-25 Mitchell 8.75" 11.25"
Formed in September 1943, VMB-433 was one of 16 Marine Corps units to be equipped with PBJ-1s in WWII — some 706 were delivered to the USMC by North American. Seven of these units would see action with the aircraft in the Southwest Pacific in the hot and bloody war fought against the Japanese in the Solomon Islands chain. VMB-433 commenced combat operations with MAG-61 on Green Island in July 1944, flying dreaded night bombing missions. The unit remained in action until February 1945, when it returned to the US and was deactivated. This particular aircraft was one of the very few PBJs to be adorned with nose art — an uncommon practice in the Marine Corps in WWII.

This is all UK week. Our first pick is actually from the good old US, but is in UK livery. It is a Sherman M1A1 with a 76 mm gun. No, it's not a Firefly. On way you can tell is that it retains its hull MG. From Treefrog we feature a 1:35 W. Britain on sale for $46.00.

WWII Us Sherman M1A1 Tank #2 17496B Wm. Britain The M4 Sherman tank was one of the most ubiquitous sights of World War II, and not only reigned as America’s main battle tank, but also that of British, Canadian, and Free French armored formations. Between 1942 and 1946, eleven plants turned out a staggering total of 49,324 Shermans, making it the most widely produced tank series of the war.
The M4A1 started coming off the assembly lines in February 1942. It featured a fully traversing turret with a short 75-millimeter main gun, a .30-caliber co-axial machine gun, and a .50-caliber machine gun on top for the tank commander. The hull also had a ball-mounted .30-caliber machine gun projecting from the bow.</B>

I just got back from Anaheim, CA and the Dragon Expo/International Plastic Modelers' Society 2007 joint gathering. There was no lack of opportunity to spend as much money as was in your pocket on diecast, models and all things pertaining to both or either. For those of you who did not attend and who still have a few bucks in your pocket, this weeks picks are for you.

We'll start with the Corgi Centaur Tank from the UK Royal Marines. Offered by Trinkets to Treasures for $15.99, this is a Corgi 1:50 piece. Cromwells and Centaurs were generally armed with 75mm guns but had close support variants armed with 95mm guns as well. The only Centaurs to see action as gun tanks were 95mm variants attached to the Royal Marine Armored Support Group. 80 such Centaurs were to have formed the first wave of the D-Day assault, though not all made it ashore.

M4A3 105mm 1:72 Dragon Diecast DRR-60282 LABOR DAY SALE

This 1/72 scale model represents an M4A3 105mm of the 6th Armored Division fighting in Luxembourg in 1945. The 6th Armored Division “Super Sixth” was a spearhead of Patton’s all-conquering Third Army, and the division helped relieve Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge. This superb model is painted in a highly attractive winter camouflage scheme, with a large yellow “15” tactical number visible on the hull sides. This paint scheme is ideal for enabling the M4A3 to lurk in concealment amongst the thick forests of the Ardennes as it supports GIs. The tank’s appeal is enhanced with the effective degree of weathering and dry-brushing effects. Details are accurate and in scale on this Sherman, making it an explosive force in any armor collection!

In this case we feature:

Me-109E Lt Werner Schroer 1:48 Carousel One CAZ-7102 LABOR DAY SALE

http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/badcattoys_1966_235364071 (http://javascript<b></b>:CaricaFoto('http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/badcattoys_1966_235223821','','http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/badcattoys_1966_235361733','735','740'))
Werner Schroer was one of the few German aces to achieve more than 100 victories against the Westerm Allies, yet he is probably best known as the pilot of "Black 8" in a much-published German color publicity photo. Schroer joined Jagdgeschwader 27 in August 1940 and flew with them in the Battle of Britain. While in France, JG 27 acquired their famous "Leopard over Africa" emblem, which reflected a determination to re-take the former colonial territories Germany lost in the First World War. When Hitler decided to send General Rommel and the Afrika Corps join Italy’s North African campaign against British Egypt, JG 27 was the fighter unit selected to support them. They landed at the Ainel-Gazla airfield in Libya on 18 April 1941. The next day JG 27 shot down four British Hurricanes, one of which was Leutnant Schroer’s first kill. In the next few days Schroer added three more victories. In late April several JG 27 109s, including Schroer’s, were cleaned and photographed for home front consumption. White wall tires shown on several 109s were not a decoration, but an attempt to protect rubber tires from desert heat. On 30 August 1941. Schroer and his wingman attacked RAF Tomahawks over Tobruk, setting one on fire and claiming a victory. Unfortunately for the Axis powers, Schroer’s victim, Australian Clive Caldwell, although wounded and nursing a crippled aircraft, did not crash. Caldwell not only limped back to base, he shot down a 109 on the way, and ultimately was credited with 20 victories in the North African fighting. Schroer had scored 11 when he was appointed Staffelkapitane of 8./JG 27 in June 1942, then tallied another 11 victories in two weeks. Schroer’s 61 victories in North Africa with JG 27 made him the second leading ace of the Mediterranean Theater, after Hans Joachim Marseilles. After rising to command II./JG 27 in April 1943, Schroer was sent to lead III./JG 54 in March 1944. In July1944 he was taken out of a combat role to lead the Unit Commander’s School. Schroer was named Kommodore of JG 3 â€Udet’ in February 1945. His final score of 114 included 102 RAF and USAAF opponents (including 26 American four-engine bombers) and 12 Russians in only 197 missions. Werner Schroer died in 1985.

We have a bonus pick this week. It is one of the great cars from my childhood days. From Motormint in 1:32 scale and available for only $12.98, it is a 1957 Studebaker Golden Hawk. 1957 was a great year for US cars. It was the first year of the fuel injected Corvette and the last year of the two seater T-Bird. The Golden Hawk is another classic, although not as well known as the Corvette, T-Bird and Chrysler 300 series.

http://www.motormint.com/ProductImages/fullsize07/57SDHK.jpg

The Highest Soaring Hawk
1957 Studebaker Golden Hawk

Too Little, Too Late
The 1950's proved too competitive for independent auto makers. The Big 3 (Ford, GM, and Chrysler) could afford to retool and redesign their lines almost yearly, which is what the newly affluent American middle class demanded. Independent makers like Studebaker, Packard, Kaiser and Hudson could not afford this and tried to compete with extreme styling. Studebaker produced some of the most interesting designs of this era like the bullet-nose 1951 and the 1957 Golden Hawk but sales kept declining. Available only as a 2-door hardtop, the Golden Hawk featured a wraparound front grille, severely slanted windshields and large fins. Under the hood, the 289 cubic inch V-8 was supercharged to 275 horsepower. 1957 was the best year for the Golden hawk but still only 4,356 were made.

Features
• Opening Hood
• Opening Doors
• 275 Horsepower Supercharged V-8 Made Golden Hawks Fly
• Precision Die-Cast Replica
• 1:32 Scale Model
• 6.25&quot; Long

About the Ilyushin II-2:
The Ilyushin Il-2 Sturmovik was a ground attack aircraft in the Second World War, produced by the Soviet Union. In combination with its successor, the Ilyushin Il-10, a total of 36,163 were built, making it the single most produced military aircraft design in all of aviation history as well as the second most produced aircraft in history behind the Polikarpov Po-2. To Sturmovik pilots, the aircraft was simply the diminutive "Ilyusha". To the soldiers on the ground, it was the "Hunchback," the "Flying Tank" or, the greatest of compliments, the "Flying Infantryman."

Significance to the War:
The Il-2 aircraft played a crucial role on the Eastern Front, and in Soviet opinion it was the most decisive aircraft in the history of modern land warfare. Flying day and night, they could defeat the thick armour of the Panther and Tiger I tanks, and occasionally shot down Bf 109s when the German pilots got careless while attacking them.

The T-6 Texan was a single-engine advanced trainer aircraft designed by North American Aviation, used to train fighter pilots of the United States Army Air Forces, United States Navy, Royal Air Force and other air forces of the British Commonwealth during World War II. The T-6 is known by a variety of designations depending on the model and operating air force. The USAAC called it the "AT-6", the US Navy, the "SNJ", and British Commonwealth air forces, the Harvard. It remains a popular warbird aircraft.

For those who have any money left in their pocket after last week’s sale, we have four more ways it can fly out of your wallet this week. We’ll start our week selections with two tanks.

The first is from Go Hobbies and Forces of Valor in 1:32 scale. It is a UK Matilda II in very interesting desert camo. I will go hull down for you for $24.00.

Our second pick is another UK tank from the next stop in the war after North Africa. In 1:50 scale from Corgi and 3000 Toys, is a UK Sherman--The Race to Messina and Beyond - M4 A3 Sherman Tank - British Army - Royal Scots Greys - Italy, 1943. It is priced at $24.95.

Our first pick with altitude is from Beck's. While I am not usually a fan of Witty's prop planes, they make a nice Sea Fury--perhaps because it arrived at the beginning of the jet age. In the 1:72 scale and for $19.99, you can pick up a:

SEA FURY - RCN
SQN. 803 - Royal Canadian Navy
Scale: 1/72 L: 5.75" W: 6.25"

Our final pick this week is from Pete's. He has a Korean war vintage four blade prop F4U-4A CORSAIR BUNO 96845 OF VMF-323, USS BAODING STRAIT, OFF KOREA, JULY 1950 from Corgi in the 1:72 scale for $17.99.

Both of this week's armor picks come from a single web page at Spirit of '76. Both are Corgi 1:50 Shermans--each of a different type and from a different war. The page containing both items is here:

http://www.spirit-of-76.com/aircraftvehicles/vehicles/corgi/index.htm

Our first pick is the very last item on that page, a Sherman flame tank from the USMC in Korea during 1953. It is from the Forgotten Heroes collection and will cost you just $22.00.

As this site does not include photos of either of our armor selections, the first one can be seen at the top of this page at Mike's site:

http://www.mikes-tanks.com/CorgiRecent.htm

Our second pick can be found listed two items down from the last of the two pictures that appear on the first referenced link above. It is a M4A3 from the Italy, The Race to Messina and Beyond collection. It is priced at $26.40. You can see in the third and forth rows of Mike's Italy, The Race to Messina and Beyond section here:

http://www.mikes-tanks.com/CorgiWWII.htm

We'll do a little better getting you pictures of our plane picks. From Wartoyz, we have:

U.S. F-15 Eagle - USAF Edwards Test Center

http://www.wartoyz.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/wt72005-f15-etc-450.jpg The F-15 Eagle is an all-weather, extremely maneuverable, tactical fighter designed to permit the Air Force to gain and maintain air supremacy over the battlefield. The Eagle's air superiority is achieved through a mixture of maneuverability, acceleration, range, weapons, and avionics.

The F-15's superior maneuverability and acceleration are achieved through high engine thrust-to-weight ratio and low wing loading. Low wing-loading (the ratio of aircraft weight to its winf area) is a vital factor in maneuverability. Combined with the Eagle's high thrust-to-weight ratio, this enables the F-15 to turn tightly without lsing airspeed.

This 1:72 scale die-cast F-15 Eagle is part of the Witty Wings' Sky Guardians series. It is approximately 11 inches long with a wingspan of 7 inches. This plane has the special Edwards Test Center paint scheme.

The model has extensive detailing, including features like metal landing gear, external drop tanks, workable rudders, and functional speedbrake. The detailed cockpit includes a pilot figure and features and opening canopy. The model also includes a display stand.

Features:

- Open window display packaging - Highly popular and collectible item - True to 1/72 scale - Fully accurate mold - Fully assembled - Historically accurate markings and insignia - Includes protective display case

At 70 tons, Germany’s Jagdtiger was certainly no lightweight! In fact it was the heaviest armored vehicle to go into production in WWII. A design to mount a 12.8cm antitank gun on the Tiger II chassis was ordered as far back as early 1943, and by April 1944 the first prototype was ready. The first pair of vehicles was fitted with a Porsche-designed suspension system, a system that proved unsatisfactory. Production was delayed until Henschel redesigned the suspension with a torsion bar system.

Dragon Armor has launched a 1/72 scale model of this Henschel Production Jagdtiger. The fully built-up replica represents tank destroyer “X8” of sPzJgAbt 512 fighting in Germany in 1945. Of special note is the realistically textured coating of zimmerit on the hull and superstructure of this Jagdtiger. This collector’s item has been face-lifted and a brand new crane added to the roof. This type of crane was used to lift up the superstructure roof in order to gain access to the fighting compartment for maintenance. The crane is beautifully reproduced to scale, as is the vehicle itself resplendent in its late-war ambush camouflage scheme.

Battle of Britain Scramble! Vignette

Now that the Thanksgiving weekend is in the books, I know that most of you are looking forward to returning for a full week of work or school. Hopefully each of you was more successful at avoiding the flu bug than was I. However, when the weather changes from 80's to the 30's in just a day or two, I'm usually toast--even without the rain that was thrown in.

Guess I'm well enough to make three armor picks this week. The first is the big boy of the group, and at it's price you'd to have been very good all year to find it in your Christmas stocking. From FOV and Badcat in the 1:16 scale and offered (at least for a few days) at $349.99, it is:

Tiger I Wittmann's Final 1:16 FOV 85504 THANKSGIVING SALE

Merry Christmas! This weeks picks come too late to be Christmas gifts, but maybe you got a few bucks in your stocking and are looking for some post Christmas die cast deals to "invest" those extra bucks.

Our two featured fighting vehicles are both from Franklin Mint in the 1:24 scale. The first is for those who have the most Christmas cash. From the Flying Mule and offered at $95.00 it is:

Our next pick is from the first Gulf War. Diecast Direct has only one left of these Humvees at $54.00 (with free shipping). They never let me show you any product of theirs that is featured. So you'll have to see it here:

Going upstairs, we will continue with Franklin Mint, as many of their products, especially a large slice of their aircraft are on closeout from various vendors. This week we will start by featuring another livery of the JU-52 and at an even better price than last week. This 1:48 bird can be flying your way before the end of the year from Trinkets to Treasures, provided you air mail your $70.00 to them first. It is:

Franklin Mint Armour Junkers Ju 52-3m Tante Norway Campaign

The Franklin Mint has earned legendary status by producing some of the most finely detailed and historically accurate die-cast aircraft models in the industry. This aircraft is no exception. This is a 1:48 scale model of the German Junkers Ju 52-3M Tante KGrzb V 106 Norway Campaign. The Junkers was first built in the 1930's yet remained in service for more than a quarter century. During the Second World War the Ju52 became the Luftwaffe's standard workhorse and was known affectionately as 'Tante Ju' (Auntie Ju). Flown mainly as a transport, it also fulfilled air-ambulance and, more unusually, mine-clearance roles. For the latter it was fitted with a large metal hoop which could be energized by a motor to explode magnetic sea-mines. This highly detailed die-cast model is built to scale. Approximate size is 15 1/2 inches in length and has a wingspan of approx. 22 inches. From the Franklin Mint Armour Collection number B11B657. The Franklin Mint Armour collection contains some of the finest detailed military and civilian scale model aircraft. They come completely assembled and ready to display! All Franklin Mint Armour diecast models are true to scale. Each model is precision-engineered and packed with authentic detail. Armour collection aircraft are decorated in authentic paint schemes - complete with military markings and historic artwork.
