If you have not already discovered this outstanding series that airs new installments on Friday nights, be sure to check it out. It is now in its second season. The series covers air-to-air combat in about the last 100 years.

Last week featured the P-47 in the ETO during World War II.

Tonight the air war in Vietnam was featured in the form of the Skyraider, whose primary mission was ground attack, and the F-4 Phantom in its later version with guns.

I caught an episode on that in reference to a korean war dogfight. Quite an amazingly addictive show. I like how they use the pilots memory for computer recreation so you can actually see how the fight went.

I've seen them all so far. The P-47 episode was superb! This series is far & away the best "quality" viewing the History Channel has produced this year. I highly recommend it to all of you.

Great series, ive seen them all. I wish they would do some of the German and British WWII pilots though. This week is the Israeli Airforce.

Dogfights : The Bloodiest Day Airs on Monday December 03 11:00 PM

May 10, 1972 was the biggest day of air combat in the Vietnam War. In addition to great "turn and burn" battles, the dogfights involve some remarkable electronic warfare as F4 Phantoms, F-105s, and numerous other aircraft as they descend on North Vietnam employing advanced radar jamming equipment, smart bombs, and other high-tech gear. Watch as famous battles are recreated using state-of-the-art computer graphics. First-hand accounts, rare archival footage and original shooting supplement the remarkable computer graphics.

Dogfights : P-51 Mustang Airs on Tuesday December 04 11:00 PM

In the aerial battleground of World War II, the P-51 Mustang proved itself to be the most famous war bird in history. Take a look at three of its most memorable battles. On November 2, 1944, Capt. Donald Bryan leads a group of P-51s escorting B-24 bombers to their target deep inside of Germany when he runs into a huge gaggle of Me109s on the attack. On June 23, 1945, Second Lieutenant Bob Scamara takes off with a flight of Mustangs from Iwo Jima. His group is jumped by seventeen Zeroes. On April 7, 1945, pilot Richard Candelaria becomes one of the first Americans to face the jet menace. First-hand accounts, rare archival footage and original shooting supplement the remarkable computer graphics.

Dogfights : Dogfights of Desert Storm Airs on Wednesday December 05 11:00 PM

A generational leap in technology and strategy is put to the ultimate test over enemy airspace in Iraq. The air combat of the future begins with America's first large scale air offensive since the Vietnam War. On the first night of the war an Iraqi Mirage F1 attacks an unarmed EF-111. Watch as F-15C pilots take on a pair of Iraqi MiG-25 interceptors. Finally Captain Cesar Rodriguez takes on MiGs, in a classic Beyond Visual Range engagement that illustrates the awe-striking power of modern weapons technology.

They got some Mig-21's too!

Swamp has a soft place in his heart for the Phantoms--especially those in camo!

Oh great, you spoiled the ending for me. :grenade:

Like there could be any other outcome, the F-4s wailed on the Mig-21s also...

Agressive spirit, superior tactics and training, which still holds true today.....

Wife is off to an X-Mas party tonight so I can watch last night's episode along with the Civil War Journal from this morning. Looking forward to tonight's episode on the P-51. Wish they'd get one on about the P-38!

If you missed the history channel's Dogfight series last night, you missed a great show.
It was on the 332nd Fighter group's P-51s vs. ME 109 and FW 190s.

Lee Archer making ace was also a highlight.

The 332nd has a special place for me as I was a "Redtail" of the 332nd Air Expeditionary Force while stationed at Balad AFB.

Eyes right

It was a good show. I've been amazed seeing it happen in the show last night and a couple of times in other episodes this week where guys got so wrapped up that they actually flew into the ground while dogfighting.

Yea, the MIG-29 was as good as shot down when he decided to split ess at too low an altitude and ate the scenery, the Eagles had him cornered, and running scared.

The Foxbats were toast before they were even in range, they are fast as hell but cant turn.

One common theme I noted in Korean and Vietnam air battles was enemy pilots leaving their comrades to save their own skins.
