Default For the Week of August 8, 2010

Hot August Nights has ended and the classic car have left town. However, we'll do our best to come up with some hot deals to fill the void.

Both of our armor picks this week are 1:32 scale. First up is the Forces of Valor German Sd. 251/9 Kanonenwagen Hungary, 1945 from OB's for $32.95.

It's not Hungary, but you can get one here:

For those with a decent diecast budget during these tough times, we next feature the Collectors Showcase M8 Stuart 75mm Howitzer - Normandy from Hobby Bunker for $119.99.

The M8 was developed on a request for a light close support vehicle to operate within tank battalions. The light tank M5 fitted with a 75 mm Pack Howitzer in a larger, open topped fully traversable turret with the 75 mm howitzer in mantlet that allowed a barrel elevation of up to + 40 degrees. 1,778 were produced between September 1942 and January 1944. Only the US Army in NW Europe, Italy and the Pacific used them from June 1944.

Limited Edition of 300.

Includes three crew, the optional thrown track ( the thrown track option has been so popular they are now including it with all of new vehicles! ) a fully detailed turret interior and removable stowage.

They almost certainly have a store in you neighborhood. Our first pick-D-aire is from none other than Target. It is the Unimax Forces of Valor 1:32 scale U.S. P-39Q Airacobra for $41.98.

Here's their on-line order page:

Finally, we have found a vendor who says that they have at least one 1:72 scale Corgi McDonnell Douglas F-4N Phantom II US Navy VF-111 Sundowners. AIRshows America offers it for $39.95.

This model is an authentic replica of the McDonnell Douglas F-4N Phantom II flown by fighter pilots of the US Navy fighter squadron VF-111 Sundowners. On 6 March 1972, while flying from the USS Coral Sea (CVA-43), VF-111 crew LT Garry Weigand and LTJG Bill Freckleton engaged and shot down a MiG-17 near Quang Lang Airfield in North Vietnam. Their aircraft, F-4B, NL 201, BuNo 153019, was restored to the original paint scheme by the current Sundowner squadron and is displayed on a pedestal just inside the main gate at NAS Key West, Florida. The squadron later transitioned to the F-4N version of the Phantom, and in late 1976 through early 1977 made an Atlantic and Mediterranean deployment, a rare event for a Pacific Fleet squadron. The Sundowners deployed with the rest of CVW-15 aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (CV-42) for that carrier's final cruise before decommissioning and the squadron's final deployment with the venerable F-4. The squadron returned to NAS Miramar in April 1977 and began to divest itself of its F-4 Phantom II in preparation for transition to the F-14 Tomcat.
