The Game is soon to be available in CD form that will not require the Internet for activation. Not in stores still online only but now you get a hard copy thats not tied to web for activation. (Plus patches removed the web based activation from digital versions)

That sounds like good news. Do you have a link about this?

Steve-maybe the activation is not as good as you thought:
"The CD program is version 1.101, which includes the option of activation via email as well as the normal internet activation method."

A 1 time e-mail or online activation/registration isnt very unusual anymore.
Its not as if the game seeks out the web anytime it is turned on. Nothing like steam. I have had no issues with it. This is an amazing game and well worth firing off an e-mail to activate.

How many activations (at one time as well as total number) do you get? I was unable to find that information, either from the web page above or a link it contained.

You can activate and de-activate the game as many times as you wish. If you have it on a computer in Austin and one in Reno, you would simply de-activate (there's a button on the main screen) the game in Austin before you left and activate the game in Reno when you got there.
I have the game on my laptop and on my pc. I've activated/de-activated many times with no problems. You can have the game on as many computers as you like, but only one can be active at a time. The Demo is actually the full game (needing an activation code to unlock the full game), so even if you lose the game due to a crash, you could simply re-download the demo and re-activate it using the activation code you saved in your email. I think this is the best multiplayer online game ever made. We've had as many as 16 players in a game at once and over 100,000 troops on the field. Steve recently made a McPherson's Ridge scenario we've played several times now (6 v 6), and it's a blast and historically accurate. This game is not a clickfest.
