Unhappy For the Week of March 4, 2012

We begin this first week of March with the Dragon 1:72 scale Ferdinand, Sd. Kfz. 184, sPzJgAbt 654, Eastern Front 1943 w/Zimmerit coating from Sprue Brothers Models for $9.99.

We used the Dragon image of this product, as the one on the vendor's sight shows a harsh reflection of the person taking the picture of the product with a flash camera.

Features:
- new-tooled upper super structure and lower hull
- true-scale model
- Historically accurate camouflage
- Detailed and weathered track links
- display case

Flash on over here:

Also from Dragon in the 1:72 scale for the budget minded collector is the HMMWV M1025, LSA Anaconda 2004 Operation Iraqi Freedom w/Armor Survivability Kit from Model Warehouse for $8.95.

This model represents a HMMWV from Task Force 1-177 that operated from LSA Anaconda (Camp Anaconda) during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2004. It includes fully detailed Add-on Armor Panels and diecast chassis.

Main Features:
- Includes detailed Add-on armor panels
- Diecast chassis
- Detailed front and rear lights and license plate
- Includes display case with diorama background
- True to 1/72 scale
- Fully accurate HMMWV mold

About Camp Anaconda:
LSA Anaconda, the largest support base in Iraq, is reportedly nicknamed "Mortaritaville" because of the frequency of mortar/rocket attacks on the base. As of mid-October 2004, an article in the Seattle Times reported, the facility, home to roughly 22,500 US troops and an additional 2,500 contractors, had been on the receiving end of roughly two attacks daily since July.

About the M1025:
The M1025 armament carriers provide mounting and firing of the MK19 automatic grenade launcher; M2, caliber .50 machine gun; and M60, 7.62 mm machine gun; ring-mounted with 360° arc of fire, with armor protection for crew, weapon components, and ammunition.

Fully-loaded M1025 armament carriers will climb road grades as steep as 60% (31°) and traverse a side slope of up to 40% (22°). The vehicles ford hard bottom water crossings up to 30 inches (76 centimeters) without a deep water fording kit and 60 inches (152 centimeters) with the kit.

As of late June 2004, the majority of the airfield's pre-existing bunkers have been abandoned by the US military. Facility Engineer Team 21 out of Ft Devens is the Department of Public Works for the base camp. As of September 2003 the Team was working on a Master Plan for the base, which may get as big as 20,000 soldiers. As of May 2004 the base had 17,000 troops and was 12 1/2 miles in circumference.

Our trip upward this week features two 1:72 scale birds of prey, the first of which is a Dragon F-4U-ID CORSAIR VMF-3 from Hobby Surplus for $24.99.

She's the second item listed on this page:

http://www.hobbysurplus.com/Diecastc...i.asp#aircraft

We can't have all our picks this week be from only one brand. So our last selection, while also in the 1:72 scale is the Gemini Aces Luftwaffe Messerschmitt BF 109F-4 Eduard Neumann from AirlineMuseum for $26.50.

Item Number: GALFT3003
Length: 5.00 in (12.70cm)
Wingspan: 5.33 in (13.55cm)
Material: Die-Cast Metal

GeminiAces is a new premium line of highly detailed, historically accurate 1:72 scale die cast warbirds and military aircraft!

Following in the footsteps of our ever-popular GeminiJets line of civilian airliners, we have brought serious collecting to the military realm with our new GeminiAces. Featured details include:

- Optional landing gear up/down positions
- Movable control surfaces
- Optional under wing fuel tanks
- Photo etched rotating metal propellers
- Superior quality graphics

The Luftwaffe had never intended to operate in North Africa, however the largely ineffective Regia Aeronautica led to the deployment of large numbers of German Aircraft. The desert proved to be the perfect arena for aerial combat and the beautiful Bf 109 'Friedrich' excelled in these harsh conditions and quickly became the scourge of Allied airmen.

This aircraft is presented in the standard Luftwaffe finish for the Western Desert. Neumann rose to command JG27 and survived the war, with 13 aerial combat victories to his name.

SxSW has begun in Austin. Although the music segment has not yet kicked off downtown is so crowded that it looks as if it had. Thus, you will probably need (a real) one of these to get around. Yes, it's a King & County 1:30 scale Panzer III from KingsX for $119.

A brand-new version of a now-retired, early AK release. This model has lots of extra detail, a great sand-weathered paint finish and comes with a half-body crew figure in the turret. It is in the marking of 15th Pz. Division.

Fit it at the bottom of this page, daring a Prius to cut it off:

https://www.kingsx.com/ecat/servlet/..._id=437&page=4

If that didn't work, let try something even bigger and with more firepower. That's right, we're circling the convention center is a full size instead of a 1:35 scale Dragon Sd.Kfz.184 Elefant 1./s.Pz.Abt.653 ~ 1st Elefant from Hobby Buy for $47.99.

- Accurate tracks with appropriate level of sag
- Front machine gun can rotate and point in different directions
- Barrel can elevate and lower.
- Includes a display base

Grab its trunk here:

The Curtis P-40 was an American single-engine, single-seat, all-metal fighter and ground attack aircraft that first flew in 1938. It was used by the air forces of 28 nations, including those of most Allied powers during World War II, and remained in front line service until the end of the war. By November 1944, when production of the P-40 ceased, 13,738 had been built.

Product Features

Diecast metal construction with some plastic parts
Realistic panel lines, antennas, access panels
Pad printed markings and placards
Detailed cockpit interiors - no pilot figures
Sturdy fixed metal landing gear for static display

Default For the week of March 25, 2012

Our final four (plus one) for this week is about to be posted.

From the Central European Regional, we feature this week's big boy, the Forces of Valor 1:16 scale 2011 Limited Edition version of the Tiger I tank, as it was seen in Poland in 1944 as part of Schwere Panzer Abteilung 505. Wartoyz still had some in stock for $359.99.

In pursuit of greater firepower, the German Army created a series of heavy battle tanks. One of the most formidable was the Tiger Tank. With 100MM thick armor plating and an awesome 88MM gun, the Tiger was vastly superior to the Allied tanks it faced.

This Tiger I was emblazoned with the battalion logo of a charging knight on its turret.

The Forces of Valor 2011 Limited Edition Extreme Metal Tiger I possesses an incredible array of detailing on the tank. Beginning with the real metal tracks and continuing with working tank suspension, exquisite sculpting, casting and painting detail, and including many removable elements and tools. The engine compartment is accessible and the detailed engine will be removable and can be displayed separately.

This 1:16 scale Tiger 1 tank is approximately 16 inches long (22 inches including the gun barrel) and 9 inches wide. It includes a scale figure of the tank commander.

This 2011 Limited Edition Extreme Metal 1:16 Scale Tiger I is sure to become a sought after collector's item.

This item has been 'retired' by the manufacturer, and will no longer be available once our current inventory sells out. Order now to avoid missing out on this best seller!

The Century Wings line of models are probably the MOST accurately replicated F-14A model ever made. They are now expanding this line to the 1/144 scale collectible line. The F-14 is a 1/144 scale model of VF-41 of the Black Aces squadron. Tail number is AJ100.

Don't let the smaller size fool you, Century Wings has included every detail from the gun turret to the sheet metal panels are accurately depicted on the jet. This particular model depicts the aircraft in the normal flying configuration with gear extended. Additionally, the model comes with a beautiful display stand. Production is limited to 2,000 units worldwide with US Retailers receiving a significantly smaller portion of the total models.

The Grumman F-14 Tomcat is a supersonic, twin-engine, two-seat, variable geometry wing aircraft. The F-14 was the United States Navy's primary maritime air superiority fighter, fleet defense interceptor and tactical reconnaissance platform from 1972 to 2006. It later performed precision strike missions once it was integrated with LANTIRN. It was developed after the collapse of the F-111B project, and was the first of the American teen-series fighters which were designed incorporating the experience of air combat in Vietnam against MIGs.

It entered service in 1972 with the U.S. Navy, replacing the F-4 Phantom II. It was later exported to the Imperial Iranian Air Force in 1976. It was retired from the U.S. Navy fleet on 22 September 2006, having been replaced by the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet. As of 2007, it remains in service only with the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force.

Trying to capture another one is the Dragon 1:35 scale Tiger I Late Production w/Zimmerit s.Pz.Abt.508, Italy 1944 for $49.95 from J-P Hobbies.

Features:
- Open window display packaging
- Highly popular and collectible item
- True to 1/35 scale
- Fully accurate mold
- Fully assembled
- Includes protective display case

Schwere Panzer Abteilung (s.Pz.Abt.) 508 was formed in August 1943, and was initially equipped with the formidable Tiger I tank. With an inventory of 45 Tiger Is, the unit was ordered to counterattack the Allied bridgehead at Anzio between December 1943 and January 1944. The Tigers had to road march 200km from a railhead, and 60% of tanks broke down on the narrow, winding mountain roads on the way to Anzio. In any event, the massed Tigers of s.Pz.Abt. 508, plus Panthers and Elefants from other units, were repulsed mainly by naval gunfire. During the Italian campaign, the unit received 32 further Tiger I tanks up till June 1944 to make up combat losses. Finally, s.Pz.Abt. 508 turned in its 15 remaining Tigers to s.Pz.Abt. 504 in February 1945 before returning to Germany to train on the Kingtiger.

Dragon Armor has produced a fine 1/35 scale model of a Tiger I from this famous unit. The fully assembled and finished model is a Late Production variant of a tank fighting in Italy in 1944. A notable aspect of this model is the Zimmerit coating reproduced in exacting detail, this item (2008 release) being the first 1/35 Tiger I with Zimmerit in the Dragon Armor range. To enable the depiction of Zimmerit, a completely new turret, upper and lower hull were produced. The Zimmerit is expertly crafted, representing as good a finish as only skillful modelers could achieve. The model is finished in an overall three-color camouflage finish, and this has been carefully painted onto the vehicle, which is itself an accurately dimensioned and detailed replica of the original tank. This Zimmerit coating adds a new look to an already popular tank, and contributes to an aggressive and attractive subject from the Italian theater.

The Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center (NSAWC) at NAS Fallon (near Reno in Nevada) fields a fleet of fourteen F-16A/B Block 15 fighters. These Fighting Falcons were part of an embargoed Pakistan Air Force order that spent many years in storage in the dry climate of Arizona. After being readied for flight again, they were dispatched to NSAWC in 2003 ready to take up dissimilar air combat training duties.

Go where Maverick and Goose never flew--here:
